Title: Geek Out
Approx Length: 4:10
Approx Size: 10 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: Bluntman returns to his old faves, 'Steve and Dave' for a film that wallows in all things 'Geek'. References galore, and packed to the hilt with jokes to appeal to its audience in the the BricksWest 2003 Comedy Comp. As comedies rely on the jokes I'll stop there. Keep an eye out for some great camera angles, a clever use of bricks as bookends, and Steve's 'excited' dance. Oh and all brickfilmers can learn a thing or two from the apartment set, it really gives the impression of space and is realistic due to all of the relevant and carefully placed props. At times some of the dialogue seems a bit... odd, maybe this has to do with Bluntman writing this for a specific audience? The amazing thing is, that we are all so used to 'Steve and Dave' that we think we know them better than maybe we really do, that really says something about their popularity. Download and laugh away at the geeky goodness!

Title: a short documentary about: RUSSELL
Approx Length: 3:32
Approx Size: 10.2 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Nick Maniatis
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: This BricksWest 2003 Comedy Comp entry from Nick Maniatis relies more on subtle (and some not so subtle!) visual jokes to support its interpretation of some classic gags. Not so much laugh out loud funny, as constantly amusing, this film also adds another layer, being a documentary about a blossoming stand up comic. It has a different tone to the other entries, and is the worth the download to see another take on 'comedy' in brickfilms.

Title: 7/7
Approx Length: approx 3:00
Approx Size: approx 5 Mb
Format: .avi
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: 7 short films in 7 days and most of them excellent! (Most around 3 mins and less than 5mb) This project is a healthy mix of sublime comedy, education, and self indulgence. Not only did Bluntman animate one film a day for seven days (which when you see the quality you'll realise how much work this must have taken), he documented the project so that people new to brickfilming could learn from these shorts. They are mostly deviod of complicated sets or plots, relying on visual or dialogue based humour. Most of the animation is top notch too, check out Samuri (sic) and Invincible for prime examples of a simple idea animated wonderfully (and the introduction of a hilarious new character into the bluntmation realm). Watch them in the order they were released for maximum impact.

Title: Raymond Riker, 003
Approx Length: 3:05
Approx Size: 7 Mb
Format: .avi
Director: Dennis Bolk
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: Shot in the tradition of James Bond (and so it seems to the music of James Bond!) we have quite an enjoyable spy flick. After an excellent intro sequence we move into a a series of action sequences that don't quite seem to fit together. I really liked the use of some of the in camera effects (though a fine hair may have been better than a black thread!). One problem is that the film ends suddenly, and feels like it does not have a satisfactory ending. Maybe a sequel will solve these problems.

Title: Construction Massacre
Approx Length: 1:37
Approx Size: 17 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Lego Productions
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: This film is, um, quite random in nature but essentially revolves around trouble at a construction site. Whilst the picture is crisp, the plot, animation and audio need a lot of work. Random, crazy plots CAN be funny, but only if the other elements support the 'structure' of the film. I did like the construction site set. Oh and in future please compress your film a little more!

Title: SuperGuy! Part 1
Approx Length: 2:13
Approx Size: 8 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Lego Productions
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: This film has its ups and downs. Conceptually it is a good idea, a parody and closer look at just how those superheroes do that cool stuff, unfortunatly some poor animation, overly sparse sets and imperfect audio timing let it down. The 'dating' scene is also a bit too long for the joke. In future, cut the credits down, (they don't really need to me that long) and work on your sets and animation.

Title: Among a Mafia
Approx Length: 1:15
Approx Size: 5.9 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: CWRProductions
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: Unfortunatley first impressions can make or break a film... and starting with a huge spelling mistake is not a great way to start! The reason I bring this up is that films are a not just visual, but combine many elements. Thus even if a film has very crisp visuals (as this one does) and reasonable animation (another plus) the other elements can bring it down. It seemed like there was a good plot here too, but the speed in which it progresses speeds up the unraveling such that it is hard to get a good grasp of what is happening. To improve, if you have text make sure it stays on screen long enough to read, spell check, take a bit more care with your audio recordings, tape down the set to stop wobbles and use a wider variety of shots (in a number of scenes I wished i was closer to the action).

Title: Indystarmatrix
Approx Length: 3:37
Approx Size: 5.67 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: IndyA
Date Added: February 17, 2003
Description: Long opening opens leads into a very sparse set and low frame rate animation. Some decent special effects and sound (and a reasonable bullet time attempt). The only problem is that the plot is, well, very random. The three elements, whilst 'classics' in their own right, do not gel together very well. The best example of combining cross film elements is 'The Rescue' where parallels are made between the characters played by Harrison Ford in the INdy and StarWars films. Indystarmatrix does have a very crisp picture quality on its side, and with a few more frames of animation, a wider variety of shots (sometimes I felt a bit too far away, I wanted to be closer) and a carefully thought out plot this animator certainly has plenty of scope for future animations.

Title: Sith Entertainment
Approx Length: 4:47
Approx Size: 21 Mb
Format: .mpg
Director: Nubluez
Date Added: January 14, 2003
Description: An entertaining take on the StarWars brickfilm formula. Some of the scenes are unecessarily long, but this is balanced by some of the best technic fig animation I have seen. The fight choreography has obviously been carefully thought about, as has the variety of shots used to convey the story. Picture quality is certainly not the best, something to improve upon in future films. A worthy addition to the Brickfilms directory.

Title: The Dofas
Approx Length: 2:07
Approx Size: 4.58 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Andreas Feix
Date Added: January 14, 2003

|
Title: Starsanta
Approx Length: 4:15
Approx Size: 5.95 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Andreas Feix
Date Added: January 14, 2003

|
|
Title: Duel at Kamino
Approx Length: 3:45
Approx Size: 12.1 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Smeagol Studios
Date Added: January 14, 2003
Description: This is a remake of the Jango Fett and Obi Wan sequence from StarWars Episode II. This one is a mixed bag, some of the cinematography is great, but at times the animation is not quite up to the standard set by the digital effects. On the positive side this is a very good recreation of the scene in the movie. A must for StarWars fans.

|
Title: Fart Competition 1-4
Approx Length: approx 1 minute
Approx Size: 760 kb
Format: .wmv
Director: WeirdEars
Date Added: January 14, 2003
Description: A series of short films about a fart competition. These films are marred by problems with focus, hurried animation and the same joke repeated many times. If flatulance humour is your thing you can grab three further episodes: Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4
|
|
Title: The Scary Movie
Approx Length: 1:05
Approx Size: 768 kb
Format: .wmv
Director: Jonathon Jones
Date Added: January 14, 2003
Description: This was Jonathon's entry for the Shootin Bricks Horror Comp. It doesn't make a whole oot of sense, but keep in mind that the creator of this film is 6 years old! Looks like he has a promising career ahead of him.

Title: Prayer of Rabia
Approx Length: 1:56
Approx Size: 6.0 Mb
Format: DivX .avi
Director: Egoless
Date Added: December 30, 2002
Description: Egoless films have for a while now used brick animation to explore a wide variety of spiritual experiences and concepts in the lego world, and this film is no exception. This time Islam is the focus through the prayer of Rabia al-Adawiyya. It took a few viewings for me to appreciate this film for what it is, an exceptionally astute interpretation through animation and music that ties clearly ties an ancient prayer to modern life. The music has obviously been carefully selected, and manages to bridge the gap between Rabia and the best extreme sport sequence I've seen filmed in bricks (Yes, I said Extreme Sports. And yes, it works, really well, be sure to listen to the lyrics of all the songs used). An excellent film.

|
Title: Boardwalk
Approx Length: 1:23
Approx Size: 1.79 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Nathaniel Jones
Date Added: December 30, 2002
Description: A strange little experimental film that is a bit too random for my liking. You can see the improvement that careful walking animation can add to a film.
|
|
Title: Bricks of Doom
Approx Length: 3:05
Approx Size: 7.22 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Nathaniel Jones
Date Added: December 30, 2002
Description: I quite enjoyed this Horror Comp entry from Nathaniel. This just goes to show that you can get a decent-ish picture out of the lego cam with creative use of software and decent lighting. I really liked the opening of the cell, simple, yet effective technique.

|
Title: The Legend of the Maul
Approx Length: 3:00
Approx Size: 14.8 Mb
Format: .rm realmedia
Director: Windforce
Date Added: December 30, 2002
Description: THe visual style of this film is excellent, crisp black and white footage (and well lit so as to maximise the use and feel that b&w can portray), smooth animation and a nice concept. Quite a bit of post production effects, which look very good except for the fact they are in full colour! This becomes problematic when some of the minifigs 'bleed' in B&W but the spurts from bullet hits are red... I'd like to watch this one in 'full' black and white. Certainly worth the download.
|
|
Title: Dominus Poenae
Approx Length: 2:20
Approx Size: 3.55 Mb
Format: .rm realmedia
Director: Windforce
Date Added: December 30, 2002
Description: Windforce's entry for the SHootinBricks and winner of the WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT? AWARD,
BEST MONSTER in the same comp. Some of the scenes in this film are really creepy, and the integration of non-brick animation into a brick world, some great sets, and nice lighting, makes this film well worth the download.
|
|
Title: Alone
Approx Length: 3:01
Approx Size: 12.2 Mb
Format: .rm realmedia
Director: Jason Rowoldt
Date Added: November 7, 2002
Description: The latest film from Jason Rowoldt was made for the recent Horror competition, and a visually interesting film it is too. This is the first time I have seen minifigs contorted in inhuman poses, and disturbing they look! Much effort has been made to make this look surreal and unsettling, and Jason has certainly succeeded in that. Some interesting visual effects (check out the doorway) add to the 'strangeness' of this film. Not without its faults, (audio quality could be better, and some of the visual effects were not successful in my eyes) this is an interesting direction, and shows that when he isn't running a comp, or keeping this site going, he can certainly compete with the best of them."

Title: SS-Moccasin
Approx Length: 4:25
Approx Size: 25 Mb
Format: .avi DivX 5.02
Director: Titan Pictures
Date Added: November 7, 2002
Description: The first submarine based film made out of bricks and brought to you by titan pictures. Nice claustrophobic sets and good lighting easily make up for the only thing lacking in the film, a plot that really draws you in. This one is over before you know it and has some interesting cinematography to keep your eyes busy during the viewing. Check it out.

|
Title: Martian Gothic 2
Approx Length: 3:06
Approx Size: 9.4 Mb
Format: .avi DivX 5.02
Director: Titan Pictures
Date Added: November 7, 2002
Description: Titan Picture's entry for the ShootinBricks Horror Comp. This is the sequel to Martian Gothic and follows a landing party returning to the base. Some nice chromakey effects, CGI intro and cool sets almost make up for the unscary 'monsters' and below average animation. It is worth watching to see how it is possible to integrate CGI effects with brick animation.

|
Title: The Electric Monster
Approx Length: 2:45
Approx Size: 25 Mb
Format: .rm realmedia
Director: Thomas Lean Tom/Tigger/Fishtankfilms
Date Added: November 7, 2002
Description: An excellent example of classic horror film making for the Horror Competition. Great atmosphere, interesting animation and some cool special effects set this film well and truly within the 1950’s B-movie horror genre. I'm not sure why there are titles for the character's speech when we can clearly hear other sound effects...

|
Title: Descension
Approx Length: 4:14
Approx Size: 10.1 Mb
Format: .avi DivX 5.02
Director: Ben B. Egoless Productions

Description: Egoless is back, and with an excellent entry for the ShootingBricks Horror Competition. Super crisp picture quality, fantastic animation, neat flash integration and a plot that considers the horrors of the unseen place this among other Egoless films and as such, a film that should not be missed.

Approx Size: 5.18 Mb
Format: .avi DivX
Director: Lego d'Erik
Date Added: September 30, 2002

Title: Animation Class: Lesson 1
Approx Length: 4:16
Approx Size: 14.2 or 19.7 Mb
Format: .avi DivX OR .RM
Director: Wandrer
Date Added: September 29, 2002
Description: If you are new to animation you should check this out... in fact, even if you aren't you should! This excellent concept sets the task of teaching animation through animation, and what a way to do it. This movie is entertaining and thoughtful, everything you need to consider before starting a film is talked about, and it is presented from 'the classroom' perspective. Excellent animation, funny 'classroom' humour and a stunning 360 degree shot just add to the 'educational value' of this film. Download it. (Soon to have its own area at Brickfilms)

Title: Macabre Manor
Approx Length: 3:20
Approx Size: 18 MB, 10.9 MB (low)
Format: .avi DivX
Director: Mystic Studios (Jared Gilbert)
Date Added: September 29, 2002
Description: This is a remake of Mystic Studios' Macabre Manor. At times abmient and spooky, but unfortunately loses some of its 'punch' due to lacklustre animation. An ambitious film with a great opening, yet another sound film from one of the makers of 'Midnight Ride'.

|
Title: Alien
Approx Length: 7:13
Approx Size: ----
Format: various
Director: Trent Brown
Date Added: September 29, 2002
Description: This film can be found over at ifilm, and to be honest, I have seen much better films there AND here. That isn't to say this is a bad one though. Some very nice eerie scenes and build up, but once again we see a spooky brick film that has all of its 'on edge' moments ruined by silly high pitched voices! This is a sci-fi film that takes inspiration from Alien and other sci-fi horror films, but we've seen it all before, and done better in Lego Chainsaw Massacre and The Thing. Look out for some great use of thrown shadows in the mid section of this one and for the use of what looks like purely 'classic' space lego sets.

Approx Size: 600 kB
Format: .wmv .rm
Director: Strati Pictures

Approx Size: 7.90 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: JarJar Productions
Date Added: September 8, 2002

Title: Cocaine
Approx Length: 5:00
Approx Size: 28.30 Mb
Format: .avi
Director: Demonhawk
Date Added: September 8, 2002
Description: This film was made for a school project, and is an interesting educational perspective on cocaine abuse. Some really funny scenes combined with good intentions (and innovative filming, for example the first person perspective walking) make for a sound film. This one is filmed at 10fps, it would benefit from a higher frame rate. A bit large in file size for its length as well.

Approx Length: 1:06
Approx Size: 520 kb
Format: .wmv

|
|
Title: Slime
Approx Length: 2:45
Approx Size: 12.3 Mb
Format: .avi
Director: Sajofilm Productions
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: I'll start by mentioning that this film is supposed to satrise the whole 'lego-cam' graininess issue (as mentioned by the director), but nothing else about this film suggests satire. In fact, had this film been in focus I would heartily recommend it as an excellent film! It is reminicent (stylistically) of 'Lego Chainsaw Massacre' and builds suspense quite well. The lack of focus and blur instead make this frustrating viewing, and to be honest, the 'satire' explanation seems to be a way to explain away the only big fault of this film.
|
|
Title: Hairy-Freak
Approx Length: 1:19
Approx Size: 2.6 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Nate Burr (Bluntman)
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: The third installment of the current 'freak' series, and I think this is the funniest one yet. Of course much of the humour relies upon the viewer having seen the previous freak films from bluntman, so you may want to have a close look at those first.
