Title: Lego Man Movie 2
Approx Length: 2:56
Approx Size: 2 Mb (128kbs version)
Format: .wmv
Director: Daniel Crocker (DCWare)
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: The plot of this film is its real weakness. There is obvious experimentation with camera angles and interesting cinematograpghy, but it is important that these elements are supported by a strong plot and careful animation. The use of sound is also good. Oh, and the final 1/2 of the film occurs at OzzFest, for you Ozzy Osborne fans.

Title: Vacation in Amsterdam
Approx Length: 1:42
Approx Size: 5.20 Mb
Format: .avi (DivX 5.02)
Director: Sebastian Socha
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: Sebastian's first film, made whilst on holiday in Amsterdam and with the help of Patryk from titanfilms. This one is a mixed bag; 3d titles and pumping music lead into poorly animated, silent scenes. There is good use of lighting in a few shots but the film is let down by its focus on the 'mature' entertainment available in Amsterdam without really providing any insight into, or comment upon them. As a bonus there is a behind the scenes write-up available on the website.

|
Title: The Man in the Night
Approx Length: 1:38
Approx Size: 2.57 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Ida Moller (Mproductions)
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: The first film from the youngest member of the Mproductions team, Ida. Good use of sound, a succinct plot and cool use of a spotlight during filming make this a pleasing short from such a young film maker.

|
Title: Tapporalli Trailer
Approx Length: 1:33
Approx Size: 1.44 Mb
Format: .avi
Director: Johannes Rojola
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: This is a trailer for a film due later this month. The action scenes look promising (high speed car chases) and are supported by a variety of cinematographic techniques as well as a combination of stop motion and live action filming. A major thing that may detract from the final film are the focus issues, many of the shots in this trailer are out of focus.

Title: The Final Duel
Approx Length: 1:05
Approx Size: 11.6 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: Joe Loretz (e-motion pictures)
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: E-motion Picture's entry for Brickfest 2002. This is a trailer for Return of the Jedi, and a nice one at that. The most impressive feature of this film is the set design, the opening scenes really look like they are occuring on Endor.

|
Title: Terror
Approx Length: 2:59
Approx Size: 14.4 Mb
Format: .wmv
Director: MajorDirector
Date Added: August 18, 2002
Description: A great little film that has its own take on recent world events. Of particular note is the excellent camera work; there are some very inventive shots in this film. Look out for the pan and movement in through the window, and take careful note of some great post-production effects.

Title: Star Wars Episode
III: Rise of the Empire (Trailer)
Approx Length: 3:03
Approx Size: 14 MB
Format: .mov
Director: Jay Silver
Date Added: July 30, 2002
Description: Quite possibly the best visual
effects brickfilm available! This film won the audience choice award
for BrickFest 2002 animation competition. Some of the effects in this
film are simply mindblowing, at times it actually seems like a trailer for
an official StarWars film. For Star Wars fans, we have what is an entirely
plausible storyline for Episode III in this trailer. It is hard to do
this film justice in a write-up. Now, you are not going to walk away
crying and emotionally moved. . . except if you are an animator. If
you are an animator, this film will make you do one of two things: 1) Look
to it for all future references as to how do do special effects, or 2) Give
up animation altogether because you will never be this good. Seriously,
folks. Give this man a full length kick ass script and watch him go
(just dont' tell his girlfriend). Some highlights I loved included:
The use of red light in the saber battles; the look of dusk in the Boba
Fett scene; the blue screened Corsucant car traffic in the background of
several shots; the clone troopers battle. Ok, I just watched it
again while writing this review. My advice: start downloading
right now. Every scene, every shot, of this film is a compositing masterpiece.
You can see Jay's Photoshop background here, because the layers and
layers of moving images, foreground shots, smoke, fire, lights, and lasers
will knock you over. Download it already!

Title: The Freak
Approx Length: 2:37
Approx Size: 4.67 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: July 30, 2002
Description: A new superhero (and an old
one...) clash with 'The Freak' in this excellent new short by Bluntman.

Title: The Game Part 2:
'The Doggie'
Approx Length: 1:55
Approx Size: 3.59 Mb
Format: .rm
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: July 30, 2002
Description: The Game series continues, from
right where it left off. As good as, if not better than 'The Game'. Once again,
Bluntman's comic timing excels.
[Jason - Ok, honestly, how does Bluntman do it? How does he animate
so quickly? Is is as mysterious as Bob.]

Title: Donnie the MobsteR:
Trouble at School
Approx Length: 2:15
Approx Size: 2.4 Mb (rm) 5.2 Mb (divx)
Format: .rm , .avi (divx 5.02)
Director: Nick Maniatis (Brick-Tastic! Films)
Date Added: July 30, 2002
Description: A short skit about a mobster
in a school. Cute with a funny script, this crisp, clear short has great
timing of the dialog. Watch the interplay of the characters as the
camera whips back and forth between them for the comedic effect that ensues.
Even a reference to Bluntmation! I like it when film-makers play
off each other, especially the Aussies. : )

Title: Jedi Chronicles:
The First Duel
Approx Length: 2:34
Approx Size: 4 Mb rm, 14 Mb DIvx
Format: .rm, .avi (divx 5.02)
Director: Nick Maniatis (Brick-Tastic! Films)
Date Added: July 30, 2002
Description: This is Nick's entry for the
BrickFest 2002 Animation Competition where it was awarded the Conference Organiser's
award. First off, the lightsaber duels in this are absolutely kick
butt. Better, I'd say, than even Bluntman's or Jay Silver's efforts.
Wonderfully done and palatably kinetic, the actors moves around and
look as smooth as minifigs possibly can. The blue, dark lighting during
"the deal" is breathtaking: it sets the mood perfectly. Notice
when they are fighting on the sandspeeder and the engine gets cut off. Another
great effect is when the dark jedi makes a swipe at the good jedi and he "ducks"
out of the way. Very well done closeup. In fact, just about everything
about this film is well done except for one thing: the voice acting.
It is an interesting state we are in as a community of film-makers
when I can actually quibble about this. A year ago I would be glad
there was dialog at all. Now, it would have been nice to have slighter
better voice work add to this superb film. All around a fantastic film
and worth the download. Well paced, well filmed, well edited. Kudos
to Nick!

Title: Kung Foo Fightin'
Approx Length: 1:14
Approx Size: 5.35 Mb
Format: mpeg
Director: Sean Collins (Brick Movies 4 U)
Date Added: July 30, 2002
Description: A lego 'music video' that utilises
some group choreography and includes a short breakdancing segment.

Title: Metro Music Video
Approx Length: 3:54
Approx Size: 12, 23 MB
Format: .rm, .avi (divx)
Director: Doug James (Shootin Bricks)
Date Added: June 27, 2002
Description: I won't give you the background
into this video, as Doug explains the project very clearly on his web site.
Basically, this is a music video. There is a music video level
plot here, and some great shots. In fact, I have to say, this is one
of Doug's best film yet (Midnight Ride might be better, but this gets the
prize for visual style). The story revolves around a day in the life
of a citizen of a large metropolitan, which we take from the atmosphere
to be in the not too distant future. Great effects toward this end
include a cool club scene, flashing lights (those who got seizures from
Pokemon, beware), big video billboards, and moving droids. There is
lots packed into this video, so repeated viewings is a must. The main
character gets led around town by the disappearing image of a woman, whom
he follows into "old city". Lots of great visuals here, including a
walk down a dark stairway with a flashlight, the opening "Good Morning" computer
news, and the great architecture of the underground club. All in all,
Shootin Bricks releases another solid film in it's growing repertoire. A
must see.

Title: Star Wars: Last
Strike
Approx Length: 2:47
Approx Size: 7.8 MB
Format: .rm
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: June 27, 2002
Description: This movie was made for the
Star Wars Trailer contest for the Brickfest Animation Festival at Brickfest
2002. As such, it plays out like a trailer, so don't be confused. That
being said, I love it! The sets are fabulous. The music is well
chosen and the sound effects awesome. Even though it is a trailer,
it exaplins the plot very well. The voice acting is actually very good.
This is the first brick film in a whiel to give me actual goose bumps,
it was so cool. Can we say light saber battles? The best I have
seen yet (but that can always be broken). I honestly can't find anything
wrong with this film (ok, maybe the door explosion was a little weak). Rather
than listen to me praise it more, download it and give Bluntman your nod
in the
forums

Title: Episode I: The Lesson,
The Glove
Approx Length: 3:35
Approx Size: 9 MB, 22 MB
Format: .rm, .avi (divx)
Director: Thomas and Wolfgang
Date Added: June 27, 2002
Description: A short film made with sets
from the Star Wars line. A hero has his girlfriend captured by some
bad guys, and fight to get her back. Nice effects from the guns firing.
Also available on this page is "The Glove", a cute ballad in German about
a fighting pit and a waywardly thrown glove.

Title: Martian Gothic,
Part I
Approx Length: 2:50
Approx Size: 10 MB
Format: .avi (divx)
Director: Patryk Wawer
Date Added: June 27, 2002
Description: An astronaut team lands on
Mars to investigate the disappearance of a manned spaceship. The intro
to this film (the opening credits) are fantastic, maybe the best I have
seen so far. The director uses lots fo blue screening throughout,
with mixed results . . . but on the whole it is very well done. There
is a fair amount of dialog in this film, mostly about your standard "Oh
No! Zombies! plot. Take this film as the evolution of where we were
a year ago here at Brickfilms. Solid filming, editing, and a story
make this a great effort. Low camera angles add to the intensity of
the action, and the sounds effects are superb. Can't wait till GTA!

Title: Brickfilms Director's
Project, Group 2
Approx Length: 4:42
Approx Size: 8.7 or 13.7 MB
Format: .rm, .avi (divx)
Director: Ben B, Conrad Slater, Jason
Rowoldt, Russ Jensen
Date Added: June 11, 2002
Description: For those of you that do
not remember (I know it has been a while), last year our community came
up with an idea for a Director's Project. We organized it into two
groups, each comprising of 4 directors. The first director had exactly
one minute of film time to tell whatever story he or she would like. The
next director took this first minute and built on it, either advancing the
story completely or giving it a bizarre (usually) twist and taking it in
another direction. We now have both films available here. In
the end it worked out very well, I think, and we really got to see the creativity
and style of 8 different people come together as two whole works. This is
an experiment in film-making over only cyberspace. Enjoy!

Title: WDLN TV animation
Approx Length: Various
Approx Size: Various
Format: .avi (divx)
Director: Dave Lennie & Andy Boyer
Date Added: June 11, 2002
Description: Rather than add all of Dave
and Lennie's new and old stuff one by one (they have about 8 more on their
page since I last heard from them), I'm going to include it all in this
entry. If you are not familiar with their work, you should be. They
do two main types of animation: scene by scene recreations of famous movies
complete with soundtrack, and original comedy works. For more of them,
check out the Feature Length movie section, and notice they are the only
ones that have something there right now. A lot of their movies have
behind the scenes photos and they even have documentaries about making LEGO
films. Look for another Biff and Mario adventure coming your way soon!

Title: Catch Up, Heinz
Approx Length: 2:15
Approx Size: 6 MB
Format: .wmv
Director: Oliver Baentsch
Date Added: June 11, 2002
Description: This film has everything!
A car chase, a bank robbery, a fight on the wing of a plane! A
police officer chases a robber and thinks get more and more wacky as time
goes on. I especially liked the jumps the car and bicycle did over
the hill. The director chose a low camera angle for that scene that
worked perfectly in my opinion. Are there any faults? Sure,
you can see the strings moving the vehicles in most scenes. The film
quality is crap (probably done with Studios). But the action is great
and you never get bored. It is paced perfectly and not bad for a first
time foray into brick film making. Welcome, Oliver! Stop by
the Forum anytime. Update: There is now an English version available
on their site.

Title: Brickfilms
Historical Fiction Contest Award Show
Approx Size: 2 or 11 MB
Approx Length: 2:10
Format: .rm or .avi (divx)
Director: Jason Rowoldt
Date Added: May 29, 2002
Description: Better late than never! This is is short
version of the awards show for the recent Historical Fiction Contest here
at Brickfilms. Within you see pictures of most of the minifig actors
who starred in the films that were entered. This was done by simply
paying attention to the costumes and then replicating them with my own
collection. Originally there were plans to do a bunch of animation
with an announcer, but time contraints led to this shortened version. All
in all it came out very well and the entrants will eb happy to see their
characters with shots of the hostess outside the ceremony building. See
if you can recognize all of the characters and tell what movie they
were from. Enjoy!

Title: Alligators
Like Canoes (and Unreal Tournament)
Approx Size: 5 MB
Approx Length: 2:00
Format: .mpg (steaming)
Director: Tim Shanks
Date Added: May 29, 2002
Description: A short movie done in the style of old Andy
Thornbery's horror films. As a side note before going on, isn't
it interesting that our body of work is so large here that we can classify
director's works as being similar in cinematic style to other directors?
Anyway, there are some great shots here of underwater action and
the alligator chewing things up. If this movie was doen with a better
camera, it woudl have been a really neat looking film. Also on this
page is a short movie set in the popular video game, Unreal Tourament. Pretty
sporadic but some nice special effects. Altogether two movies that
are not too bad at all and worth a look.

Title: Doorway
Approx Size: 4 MB
Approx Length: 1:10
Format: .avi
Director: Nick Maniatis
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: A whimsical, surreal tale with awesome camera
work. The action moves fast and crisp in this film. The
image is as smooth and sharp as you can get, and the special effects
are wonderfully done. Stay tuned after the end of the film for
a few tricks the director used.

Title: Legolomo
V
Approx Size: 15 MB
Approx Length: 3:45
Format: .mov
Director: Marcel Belledin
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: What a sweet little movie. Without dialog,
Marcel tells a tale of forbidden love, jealousy, and throws in a police
escort as well. The music, camera angles, and animation of the
characters tells it all. You will be reminded of King Kong, of course,
the classic tale of beauty and the beast. Notice several nice angles,
such as the giant creature through the bars, the several inventive camera
angles at the beginning with the ship, and my favorite, the pan over the
building after the fight. Very nicely done. With lots
of sets, nice music, great editing, and a nice, simple story told well, this
is a classic example of the simple beauty a brick film can be. See
how much difference a story makes?

Title: Assault
From the Past
Approx Size: 17 MB
Approx Length: 1:29
Format: .wmv
Director: Major Director
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: Woo hoo! Total carnage! I love it! This
may be the best straight action movie I have seen yet on Brickfilms.
That is saying a lot, as most of these movies have some kind of
fighting or another. But this movie gives a great impression of
an intense fight through mostly good editing. Forget the tired plot
and watch it a few times for the action. There is no sound for
the first 30 seconds, which kind of sucks, but it's nice when it gets
underway.

Title: Preview
for High 5
Approx Size: 44 MB
Approx Length: 3:05
Format: .mpg
Director: Adam Bliley
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: A trailer for an action movie. Lots
of car crashes, chases, near misses and other hoopla. If the animation
were a bit less erratic this would be a pretty incredible trailer. Lots
going on, the most car chasing I have seen in any movie yet.

Title: Perelowic
Approx Size: 17.3 MB
Approx Length: 1:29 sec
Format: .avi
Director:Brain Gould (of OCAP)
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: I'm not sure what this film was supposed to
be about. The choice of music was fantastic, and in the first
30 seconds, I was very impressed. But the rest made no sense. Maybe
this is part of a longer work? Discuss on the forums ... is this
a genius respresentation having to do with snowmobiles, or a short
film that starts off very nicely then gets confusing and goes nowhere?
I really wanted to liek this film, and I think a better film coudl
be made by chopping off the rest after the flowers and using it as the
basis for another movie.

Title: The Mystery
Of Bob
Approx Size: 6 MB
Approx Length: 4:16
Format: .avi
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: A day in the life
of Steve and Dave, two characters that discuss article of geekdom and
are interrupted by strange occurances. This episode feattures the
same natural flow of dialog as Bluntman's first movie, but is not quite
as funny. Still, there are some amusing momnets, and well worth
the download.

Title: Ninja
Thief
Approx Size: 3.06 MB
Approx Length: 1:53 sec
Format: .rm
Director: Ben B, Egoless Productions
Date Added: May 2, 2002
Description: A short film that
is just about what the title says. A ninja breaks into a house
and is confronted by the owner, but in a zen way. Great animation
from Egoless, as always. Note the great jumping and flipping sequences.
Beautiful moon, by way.

Title: The
Fencers
Approx Length: 1:04
Approx Size: 1.88 MB
Format: .rm
Director: Jason Rowoldt
Date Added: March 26, 2002
Description: A simple
fencing match turns into something deadly. There's some good techniques
in here, watch the sword and man falling in slow motion. Nice blood
effects with clay, and good choking noises.
The tension is set with the close-ups of the faces, much like
in Dance Lesson. A good short film.

Title: Der
Reiche Kornbauer
Approx Length: 1:31
Approx Size: 6.1 MB
Format: .avi in a .zip
Director: Sammy Dittman
Date Added: March 26, 2002
Description: This is a religiously
themed film, and the director was kind enough to interpret it for me.
When the minifig falls in the beginning and gets back up again-this is
smooth animation. The crash was well done too. There is a lot of light
in some scenes and not a lot in others. This is a great first submission
from this director and we hope to see more.

Title: Mystery
of the Ewok
Approx Size: 2.32 MB
Approx Length: 3:21
Format: .wmv in a .zip
Director: Bluntman
Date Added: March 10, 2002
Description: This film is hilarious.
Instead of focusing on the action, this movie is focused on dialogue.
Would Yoda beat Darth Vader in a one on one battle? Dave and Steve get
into rather heated territory when they don’t see eye to eye. This movie
has a fight, wonderful dialogue, humorous happenings-this is a must
see. Notice the Director walks by in the foreground at one point.

Title: Lego
Live
Approx Size: 3.84 MB
Approx Length: 2:29
Format: .wmv
Director: Bob Bongo
Date Added: March 10, 2002
Description: This is a live
concert where you can see a band play to a crowd. There is a quick
glimpse of some crowd surfing-which is cool. The animation is good-the
whole crowd moves. The band on stage looks like they’re really into their
music. The drummer beating the drums is pretty funny. Reminds me of The
Flinstones.

Title: Doctor
Death
Approx Size: 4.43 MB
Approx Length: 2:54
Format: .wmv
Director: Bob Bongo
Date Added: March 10, 2002
Description: This has got to
be the best horror addition to the directory yet. The audio of this
movie – from the ambient, morbid music, to the hellish voice of the slave-are
top notch. The voices are a little hard to hear, so turn your speakers
up, or watch it a dozen times (I did). The scenery is another feat, from
the interior of
the laboratory / dungeon, to the world where the victims lie.
The outdoor scenes have nice background matte paintings, while the
interior boasts a staircase with a chain handrail. There are special
effects here too, from Master of the Undead rising out of the ground
to the conks on the victims heads. This is a really good scary movie.
Watch it now. FDG note: Did you notice that this reminds you of Andy
Thornbery’s The Thing? Look at the main character and the sped up voices.

Title: Whenever,
Wherever
Approx Size: 2.45 MB
Approx Length: 3:30
Format: .wmv
Director: Carlos Eduardo Jorge
Date Added: March 10, 2002
Description: This is a technical
music video using Shakira’s Whenever, Wherever. By using the music
and applying pans, transitions, and quick cuts, there is no animation
in this movie. (I think Shakira’s lips were moving but I wasn’t sure.)
This seems to me a screentest for workingout angles, instead of one for
motion. |

Title:
The Adventures of Lego Jones: The Desert Secret
Approx Size: streams
Approx Length: 2:36
Format: streaming realplayer
Directors: Andrea Stubbe, Rico
Dober, Roland Koch
Date Added: February 11, 2002
Description: This short uses
old style title screens to get dialogue across. They are put to good
use as this is an action/romance flick. Bad guy takes artifact
and girl, Lego Jones must get them back. The interior scene is a little
dark, but the animation is good, especially in sand. It's incredibly
hard to animate things in a substance such as sand because there is so
much room for screwing up your surface as you are working.
These guys do it well. Watch for the explosion in the end-well accomplished.
I liked the quick view of the dynamite as the camera passed by. The gun
muzzle flashes are done much like in The Thing - with little pieces
of wax paper. A cool romp in the desert. |

Title: NK2020
Approx Size: 9.24 MB
Approx Length: 3:31
Format: .avi in a .exe
Director: Nick Maniatis
Date Added: February 11, 2002
Description: A movie very subtle
in its violence, leads to blackened scenes rather than blood. I applaud
this factor, even though the uneasiness this movie portrays is ambient
throughout. Watch the camera angle from inside the safe. This is a well
edited movie with fast action. A download must.
[Ed. - This file is available in a self-extracting
.exe file. Normal I would be hesitant to post an .exe. file as
a movie, but I have checked it out and it is ok to download.]

Title: Big Night Out
Approx Size: 6 MB
Approx Length: 3:23
Format: .wmv in a .zip
Director: Crazy Hobo Films
Date Added: February 11, 2002
Description: This film is hilarious.
First of all, the voices are outrageously done - the nerd voice is
impressive. The plot is great - three "hip" friends go out for the night
looking for adventure. Only hilarity ensues. There's a good use of flashbacks
throughout the short, they're led into very well. The animation is subtle-watch
for the hat being thrown outside the museum. And the museum! I really wanted
to see more. The combination of quick glimpses and weird camera angles
adds an
atmosphere to the museum. A very funny, well put together
little movie |

Title: Fightclub - Valtsu vs Allison
Approx Size: 1.54 MB
Approx Length: 1:06
Format: .rm in a .zip
Director: Valtsu (Still2Life
Productions)
Date Added: February
11, 2002
Description: Allison of Ocap
dies again in another movie rising from the forum war. This short
can well be stated as fluid. The camera pans so fluidly around the
set, it seems like second nature. The bearded lady is a funny touch.
Watch for the nice spreading of trees part so there's a nice battlefield
in the end. A very dark and satisfying short. |
|
Title: LegoMafia
Approx Length: 2:05
Approx Size: 2.99 MB
Format: .WMV in a .zip
Director: “Stu”
Description: This adventure
stars Alex and Stuart (LegoMcDonald’s) and is another funny romp. The
sound effects are getting more complicated and add depth to the movie-
the treasure chest and
chair both squeak, though the fight scenes only have an occasional
thwack sound. The animation is
fluid during the car chase-watch for the monkey jumping from
one car to another. This movie is
funny too- I think any kind of bartering for monkeys is chuckle
material. |
|
Title:Derrick (Guindaste)
Approx Length: 1:35
Approx Size: 1.70 MB
Format: .avi
Director: Carlos Eduardo Jorge
Description: This is a short
with no sound demonstrating an elevator type machine. Minifigs
go up slowly, and whatever goes up... The machine is designed
nicely, and rather than being stop
motion, this is real time. If you like this short, you’ll
like My Coolest Lego Creation found

Title: Dangerous Trucks
Approx Length: 2:00
Approx Size: 1.33 MB
Format: .wmv in a .zip
Director: Marcel Klapschus
Description: [Please keep in
mind that this film was not made by anyone at Brickfilms.com.
The Directors have chosen to call themselves Brickfilms Studios in the
credits, but they have no affiliation with this site or it's owners.]
It's a little hard to follow this film, but essentially
it follows two unnamed police officers trying to catch up with a car
thief. The animation is a bit choppy but it's interesting to follow
the dialog and action. There is also a line about the Polish mafia
and C-4. Who knew Poland had a mafia? All's well that ends well.

Title: Lego Troopers
Approx Length: 4:28
Approx Size: 6.68 MB
Format: .avi
Director: Rhapsody
Description: This movie is
in French, so some of the meaning is lost to me-but don't get me wrong.
This movie rocks! It combines everything popular of space movies today
(huge spaceships, explosions, and tension) with some nice visuals. All
of the backgrounds make the interior of the
spaceship look good, and when the troops come onto the docking
bay-the scene is well done. The special effects in this movie are awesome-watch
the binoculars and morphing scene to see what I mean. This is a huge
movie with nice voicework and good humor. |
|
Title: Mummy
Approx Length: 2:04
Approx Size: 5.05 MB
Format: .rm
Director: Egoless Productions
Description: A very well done
animation set in an Ancient Egyptian museum. This one is essentially
a music video set to an old 50s song about a mummy. There is
a lot of bizarre singsong dialog nicely lip synched. Ben B uses
a couple of nice effects, such as masks for "talk bubbles" and overlay
animation for shrugging shoulders. Nice short, well worth a look
for the animation (though the song is admittedly in the realm of Rocky
Horror Picture Show weird.) |

Title: Missing Out
Approx Size: 12.7 MB
Approx Length: 2:56
Format: .mpeg
Director: Jonathan Neary
Description: A little while
ago there was a flame war on our forum here. Several short film
resulted from this, but apparently "nubluez" missed out. This
short clip tracks a pretty nicely synched fight naming some of the people
who frequent the forum. A nice short made with the legocam. |

Title: The Speederbike
Approx Size: 10.1 MB
Approx Length: 2:07
Format: .avi
Director: Alban Nanty
Description: A stormtrooper
needs a speeder bike and has mechanics build it for
him. The quality of the picture is superb and it is easy to
see everything that happens (building
speederbikes can be painful). The set is put together realistically
and with lots of laughs. The sounds in the movie are well done-from
sounds of footsteps to scraping metal across the floor. This is a fun
movie to watch. |

Title: The Hitch (Die Panne)
Approx Size: 1.34 MB
Approx Length: 2:02
Format: .wmv in a .zip
Director: Marcel Klapschus
Description: This reminds me
most of Grand Theft Auto. The main characters are criminals and will
do anything to get away from the law. The sound in this movie is
quite funny. Listen to the parts where something is about
to get stolen - eerie music plays just like in
the horror movies. Please note that even though this
is on a site named brick films, it is not associated with this site. |

Title: Just Another Thief Film
Approx Size: 16.2 MB
Approx Length: 3:45
Format: .mpeg
Director: Jonathan Neary
Description: Not only is this
another thief film (right up there with the Star Wars films), this
is a
thief film with a good plot. Unbreakable almost. Watch the
first scene where the thieves open the
skylight-there's light from their cutting torch and a sizzle
as it works. The cotton for the explosions
looks pretty cool in the end. As the cops track down
the thief and the film progresses, it's accompanied by a nice array
of songs. Watch out for some of the language though. A well done thief
movie. |

Title: “Black or White” Michael Jackson music
video
Approx Size: 3.51 MB
Approx Length: 1:23
Format: .wmv
Director: Colin Jones
Description: This music video
pays homage to the King of Pop through Computer Animation. Renderings
are done well and you can see it’s a spoof of the original Black or White
video. If minifigs really moved the way they do in this short, everything
would be a little easier. A
side note: Lego has a sculpture of the Statue of Liberty. |
|
Title: Held Up on Ice
Approx Size: 1.71 MB
Approx Length: 1: 37
Format: .rm
Director: Dan Bell
Description: This short opens
nicely with a comforter spread out for snow. If you look quickly, it
looks like there are tracks in the snow from the snowmobile. Basically,
this movie is a quick chase through some arctic environment. Watch the
jumping across the water with the snowmobile part, nice and even-like
a real jump. The animation is and the camera shakey, so we can't really
recommend it from an animation point of view, but it's a nice start. |

Title: Legolomo IV: Horror
Approx Size: 8.39 MB
Approx Length: 3:06
Format: .mov in a .zip
Director: Marcel Belledin
Description: I will tell you
right now-download this movie. As a huge fan of horror, this movie
has it all - tension, humor, mischief, and romance. The binocular scene
in the beginning is hilarious. Filmed in black and white, it’s more
about atmosphere than bloody situations. The cinematography should be
noted as well - pay attention to the stair scene at the end. Scenery is
well made from the laboratory to the streets and buildings. Very dark settings
give a feel it was filmed long ago. Add
gloomy music and you have an old-fashioned fright fest. |

Title: Mr. Chisim Part 2
Approx Size: 3.38 MB
Approx Length: 2:12
Format: .wmv in a .zip
Director: CrazyHoboFilms
Description: This movie looks
real nice being filmed with Lego Studios. The picture is crisp and clean.
The audio is pulled straight from Young Guns 2 and the video mimics
a very tense scene. Much like Dance Lesson, watch the close up of faces
to show hate/fear. As for the background-just like a western would be,
sparse desert and a few rocks. This short shows you don’t need a lot of
bricks to make a movie. |

Title: Sector 7 preview
Approx Size: 3.2 MB
Approx Length: 3:18
Format: .rm
Director: Robert Taylor
Description: Yet another Star
Wars movie. However, this is one of the better ones I have seen.
The voice acting is not half bad, and the director attempted to get
a little animation of the mouths going. It's amazing how intuitively
you can tell the lips are not synching up, but animating the mouths
is a nice touch anyway. Nice blue screen effects and excellent
use of sound and sound effects. We are looking forward to the finished
movie, which should be around 3 times as long as this . |
|
Title: You’re Toast
Approx Size: 10 MB
Approx Length: 2:16
Format: .mpeg
Director: Jonathan Neary
Description: This short is
well worth a download. Taking place in Franc’s Toast Shack, we see
a well-choreographed fight scene take place. Fighting over the last
piece of French toast, the majority of the bar gets into a very nice
scuffle. Watch the head banging on the counter-the sound is in sync
perfectly. From matrix moves to down and dirty knees to the face-this
movie has nice angles to catch all the action. The only thing to work
on is the sound in the beginning,
where the background noise only comes in when people speak.
That aside, the fighting is some of the most realistic I’ve seen and
most brutal. |

Title: Big Mistake
Approx Size: 20.3 MB
Approx Length: 4:42
Format: .mpg in a .zip
Director: Jonathan Neary
Description: This movie reminds
me of Gumby-you know when he gets on one foot and skis around. Everything
in this movie seems as if it’s on a conveyor belt. From keeping up a
garden to riding a horse-everything moves across the screen in the same
position they started the scene with. Once you get by the roller effect-this
is an extremely fun movie. Watch the man sharpen his weapons as he gets
ready for some blood-letting. The note is a nice touch (did they have lined
paper back then?). Seeing a rider and horse in full battle gear is a really
nice thing. Seeing the same rider perform a crouching tiger move (after
he falls off the horse) is pretty cool too. Watch for the woman twirling
her spear. Overall, the story is good but the animation is a bit fast and
rolls across the screen too much. |

Title: Girl
Approx Size: 5.88 MB
Approx Length: 3:37
Format: .rm
Director: Ben B.
Description: Ben B. of Egoless
Productions is shaping up to be one of the best amateur LEGO movie
directors I have seen. This movie is admittedly a bit of
Christian propaganda, but well done. There are many times
in the film where one feels an attachment to the little girl and her plight,
and the choice of music was excpetional. This may be the most serious
film we have had on Brickfilms to date, and I recommend everyone watch
it. On a technical level, notice the great use of the superimposed
figures to make a "ghost" effect, and notice the tears and blood.
A very well composed and directed short. Download this now! |

Title: Drunken Farmer Ben, various others
Approx Size: 482K-5.3MB
Approx Length: varies
Format: .rm
Director: Tyler Hines
Description: The two larger
shorts mostly focus around Drunken Farmer Ben and his deathmatches.
The animation is a bit choppy and you can see the date/time stamp sometimes.
The concept here is great-DFB makes machines of destruction and then
lets a bunch of people use them to kill each other. My favorite is the
spear pit. The voice of Ben is that of a sloshy drunk and he is allowed
to enter the match at any time. A bit amatuer lacking solid animation,
but noneless it's a brick animation! |

Title: Day-O
Approx Size: 1.12 MB
Approx Length: 1:02
Format: .avi
Director: Chris G.
Description: This is a short
spoof to the song “Day-O.” There is repitition in this video that
is reminiscent of real music videos, the plane that keeps flying overhead,
and the house reduced to rubble. Having the mouths move in near-sync
with the words is nice. Listen to the words of the song- I think we
have a political activist on our hands.
Jason's Note: This clip has nothing to do with
political activism, but is set to a parody of Harry Belafonte's original.
This is the first movie we've had that has to do with the Sept 11th
tragedy. I've decided to list it, but keep in mind this is just
wartime foolishness, and should be treated as such, lightheartedly.

Title: Dragon Doom
Approx Size: streaming
Approx Length:
Format: streaming quicktime
Director: David Clough
Description: This is a really
enjoyable movie. It is humorous-watch the beginning scene to see what
I’m talking about. It also has picketers who don’t want the last dragon
slain. The castle is the original yellow one-and sets our minds back
to when we were younger. The animation is a bit choppy, but the entire
story, humor, and blood letting (watch the decapitation in the end-nicely
animated clay) make this movie a must see Halloween treat. |
|
Title: Take-Off, Race
Approx Size: 761 KB, 822 KB
Approx Length: 1:07, 1:23
Format: .rm
Director: Doug Green
Description: These two shorts
comprise very simple ideas and execute them without too much extra.
Race is about a race – a bunch of people start out, then someone crashes,
and they go back to find the hurt. The scenery in this one is nice. Take-Off
is a pilot walking to his ship and taking off. Nice sound effects for the
door opening and closing. Take-Off is a little easier to see because
the animation is a lot smoother. |
|
Title: Haunted Manor
Approx Size: 1.52 MB
Approx Length: 2:19
Format: .rm
Director: Doug Green
Description: It’s Halloween
and there’s nothing scarier than a minifig peeing their pants. As the
group enters the haunted house, there’s a good hyping of tension and
the cat scene is very good. This film keeps the time honored- let’s show
the monster at the end of the film routine. Go get some peeled grapes and
some brain spaghetti and fear for their little plastic lives. |
|
Title: Take On Me, Stairs
Approx Size: 2.51 MB , 771
KB
Approx Length: 3:51, 1:09
Format: .rm
Director: Doug Green
Description: I always enjoy
the shorts where bricks build themselves. Haven't you ever noticed
when you pull legos out of your bins, some pieces just want
to be together? Maybe if you gave
them enough time… Stairs is a nice short portraying just that-stairs
making themselves. While
Take On Me (yes, it's the song) is much longer, it's very
hard to understand. With the
graininess it's hard to see what's going on. But I think it
has something to do with revenge. If
someone threw dynamite at me, I'd go buy some and throw it
right back. Good use of
overexposure for the explosions. |
|
Title: Sun God
Approx Size: 8.79 MB
Approx Length: 3:21
Format: .avi
Director: Brian of Ocap
Description: This here movie
is some hardcore music with some hardcore fighting. Reminds me of Mortal
Kombat with a little religion mixed in for fun. What's really fun about
this movie is the
Sun God's "special move". Watch the earth quake as he summons
a wall to block him, and
uses the same wall to slam his opponent into. A lot of the
moves are Matrix-esque (the camera pans around while the action stands
still). This movie is filled with intensity and nice cinematography. |
|
Title: The Gauntlet
Approx Size: 4.24 MB
Approx Length: 3:18
Format: .rm
Director: Jay Silver
[Read an interview with this director]
Description: This film was
originally intended for the Classical Film Contest. Set to Edvard
Grieg's "Hall of the Mountain King" this film is spectacular.
Nice special effects in the conjuring
scene. The light in the beginning of this film is just enough-from
a high window. Throughout the
chase there is a good balance between light and dark-gloomy
and macabre mostly with
flickering torches here and there. The short follows the music
nicely-watch the pounding door in
the end. Another nice touch to this short is the format it's
in: widescreen. I'm always for it on
DVD-and it makes this movie unique. |

Title: LegoLand Is Not Enough
Approx Size: 1 MB
Approx Length: 3:49
Format: .rm
Director: Greg Gates
Description: Three words: Naked
Barbie Dolls. Now that I've got your attention, this short
features that and more. This short opens with a very good
sequence straight from the original
Bond movies. The audio is pulled straight from TWINE, and
you can see how lame the actual
dialog is. The animation is a little jumpy, but half the time,
minifigs are knocked over to simulate movement. Reminds me of Kablam!-where
they say 20% animation and 80% throwing stuff
across the screen. The first boat landing on the water is
smooth, and the sledding animation is
done well on cool mountaintop backgrounds. A nice Bond short. |
|
Title: The Rescue
Approx Size: 1.95 MB
Approx Length: 2:27
Format: .rm
Directors: Jason Allemann and
Deane VanLuven
Description: A wonderful melding
of two Lucas films. The special effects in this movie are great,
from the arrows to the spaceship taking off. The audio is pulled straight
from the movie it mimics and the animation and camera angles are well
thought out. Watch the "don't step on the traps" scene to see what I'm
talking about. |
