Tips on How to Create Your Own Collection

If you are looking to create a unique collection that you can actively enjoy, consider starting a film reel collection. Instead of just gathering dust like some other collections, a film reel collection can be enjoyed by you and others in viewing parties and other events. Although it is not easy or cheap to start your own film reel collection, the investment will be well worth it if you have a genuine appreciation for this traditional art form.

First, make sure you have the necessary equipment to play a film reel, so you can enjoy the film reels you collect. This will require an in home projection system that is able to play reels of varying sizes. You may also want to look into preservation systems if you plan on collecting rare or older film reels. Gain a general knowledge of the film reel market and where you can get films so you aren’t fooled into making an unwise purchase. Once you have done this, you can go about collecting film reels. Deal only with reputable dealers; you can ask other collectors for recommendations. Whenever possible, ask to verify the quality of the film reel before purchasing. The last thing you want to do is go home with a poor quality reel because you didn’t verify its quality.

Most importantly, make your film reel collection a reasonable goal by setting limits. Strive to choose a certain director, genre, theme, or time period you wish to collect film reels from. This makes your collection focused and also helps you narrow your search for the film reels you would like to add. Having a focused collection has another benefit: if you ever need to sell your collection, you will have more interested buyers than if you had a collection with a little bit of everything. With proper time, knowledge, and investment, you can easily be one your way to having a satisfying film reel collection.
