This was my APE-entry. I really had an exciting time animating this film. Since the deadline was coming really fast I had to animate for 4 days, finishing the film after an animation frenzy of 22 hours nonstop, one hour before the deadline.
In my opinion I improved in animating techniques like lighting, editing and animation a lot if you compare this film to the one before, "The Crase". About a Door is about how things can evolve and escalate just because of such simple things like a closed door and a sign which forbids you to open this door. It starts with a blank wall and one minifig who is forced to make the ultimate choice of whether opening the door or not, until a second, and third, a 20th minifig arrives. All have different opinions and views of what should happen with the door, and things escalate...
Several parodies resulted from this film, and I'm really proud of this. Check the film directory for Logan's "About a Door parody" (which has even been parodied by TheWhiteDragonLBP), DigiDave's "Beyond Holgor's Door", Erlic's "Parody" and Ferder's "About a Different Door". I myself have made a wannabe-sequel, created for April 1st, which you might want to check out if you liked "About a Door", it's called "The Grand Opening".
I hate to admit it, but I guess this film is going to be my best work for a long time.

One of my favorites from the APE competition is "About a Door". The technical aspects are fairly well done, and are certainly improvements from Holgor's previous work, but it is the plot (or equally so, the idea) that makes this film truly special.
The first thing I notice about the plot, is that it is much more focused and detailed than a great many films. At 11 minutes, "About a Door" isn't short for a brickfilm, but it takes place around a single event. Instead of trying to tell a large story, Holgor tells a small one with a much more care.
If you have not yet seen "About a Door", I highly urge you to do so, and see what all the fuss is about.
