After animating in 3D for almost a year, I thought about combining 3D and lego animation as I suppose was inevitable. But instead of making a 30 fps, bending-elbows-and-knees 3D lego movie, I figured I’d make it as close as possible to a real lego movie.
The frame rate is 15 fps, the characters were animated frame-by-frame, and I had a lot of fun mimicking the standard ways a real lego mini-fig walks, turns in place (three different ways), and “talks.” At the same time, it is a short, one-joke film that, as far as I can tell, is the most prevalent type of brickfilm around. So, except for the fact that it is in 3D, I think it counts as a normal brickfilm.
So enjoy it, but don’t go looking for photo-realism. |
