The Inventor is my entry for the IDEA contest, and it ended up placing second overall, which was quite a pleasant surprise for me. Like many of my other films, though, it has been criticized for its weak story, and many people didn't like the voice acting. Lord_Of_The_LEGO even said the voices made him want to jump off a building (not seriously). So... watch it at your own risk, I guess! Hope you like it.

Just to get it out of the way: Some people will not like the voices in this film. I didn't. But enough about that.

The Inventor is a quirky little film that tells the tale of an Inventor...who invents stuff. The thin story and strange voices detract from the film, but the very nice visuals make up for them...mostly.

This film is a feast to look at, from the elegant interior sets, to the impressive digital models, to even the clever and enjoyable design of the ending credits. Nick demonstrates his impressive skill with compositing digital models with stop-motion animation, and his digital renderings vary from convincingly LEGO-like to more obviously digital, but still good looking.

The musical score by newcomer Alexander Suppe is also very nice, and easily the best auditory part of this film.

If you're looking for a film with a deep, substantial plot with good voice actors, there are plenty of other good films to watch. But if you want to watch a simple, beautiful-looking film with impressive stop-motion/digital compositing, watch The Inventor. Now.

If you know Nick Durron and you have previously viewed his films then you are probably aware of this common opinion, "amazing technical details however the story was a little confusing and also the voices were a little, too, hard to understand." However after, viewing this film you can safely say that this has Nick Durron's best visual effects and animation we've seen in a film from him, a great story which is fairly simple to follow but still contains a few twists to make the plot interesting and some quite normal voices; well normal for Nick Durron that it is.

This films offers such smooth animation that you will kid yourself it was not CGI, visual effects that could compete with any Hollywood film out there and overall it defiantly deserved it's place as 3rd in the IDEA contest; if not higher.

This is an unmissiable 6 minute wonder so watch it now.

Delivering film via the internet is still trying to find its place right now, so please be patient when downloading a movie. Also, since many of these films are hosted on free sites (most of us are not paid to do this, after all), sometimes waiting a few minutes and coming back will resolve a downloading error. If you get a persistent error, pop into the Forum and ask away.

Keep in mind that different formats require different movie players and sometimes even encoding formats, called "codecs", to be installed on your system.

We've got a list of common codecs here on the Resources page, and links to where you can download them.
