Mega Blocks was begun as Ritvik Toys Inc. in 1967 by a husband and wife team, Victor and Rita Bertrand. By the 1980's, Ritvik Toys Inc. was a top toy distributor in Canada, and in 1985, it introduced Mega Blocks to the toy industry.
The first Mega Blocks introduced were the maxi kits, which fell somewhere between Lego Duplos and Primos in size. A few years later, mini blocks made their entrance, which were similar in size to the Duplos. Micro size came out a couple of years later, and were similar in size to the regular Lego bricks, and nano size, which was introduced just a few years ago is the smallest Mega Blocks yet. Over the years, this company has had license agreements with numerous companies to produce themed kits, including NASCAR, Marvel Comics and Walt Disney.
These building toys quickly became a worldwide phenomenon, and by the end of the last century, Mega Blocks Latinoamerica and Europe were established. Today, this building craze has spread to more than 100 countries and employs more than 1100 people. While the early kits primarily appealed to boys, the company now offers a number of more feminine building products that open up this world of creativity to girls as well as boys.
In addition to Mega Blocks building toys, this company also provides toys, games and kits under the names of Rose Art, Magnetix and Board Dudes. This allows this toy manufacturer to produce fun and entertainment for a wide variety of age groups, with choices for every family around the world.
