How and why did Star Wars Legos Begin?
With the Star Wars movie series becoming such a national phenomenon, it seems logical that a Star Wars Legos craze was sure to follow. After all, what could be wrong with combining two hugely popular pastimes with kids and grownups alike to create an entire line of building toys that could satisfy a love for both? Apparently, this formula was indeed a formula for success, with more Star Wars Legos kits created all the time, and an extension on the license to 2011.
Rumor has it that Star Wars Legos came into existence because the children of George Lucas requested the license for the toys. The license was granted in 1999, at the same time that Star Wars 1: The Phantom Menace was released in theatres. As other movies have come out, more building sets have been introduced as well. Some have even been redesigned and released a second time to meet the high standards for some of the more discriminating Lego hobbyists and Star Wars fans.
There was a brief wrinkle in the force when Lego decided to change the skin color of all its mini figures from the standard yellow to a more natural hue. This change also affected the mini figures in the Star Wars Legos kits, so that the current figures are more accurately depicted. These new figures are included in the updated kits, with more figures in each set, and a wider variety of characters to choose from.
Star Wars Legos are more than simply toys; these are collector sets that are carefully built and displayed by some of the biggest fans of the series worldwide. Many of the sets are very large and challenging enough for any adult to enjoy. If you are a fan of the Star Wars series, perhaps these Lego kits are the next logical step in your movie collection.
